Many nail-biting, heart-wrenching Catholic novels live only on computer hard drives, or on the back shelves of obscure bargain racks. We urge good Catholics to seek out and support Catholic authors. Doing so, you will find penetrating stories that dig at your heart and keep you on the edge of your seat. Meanwhile, you will protect yourself and your family from writings that malign or misrepresent our Faith. Many undiscovered Catholic novelists write page turning contemporary fiction with plots that twist and writhe like extraordinary versions of real life. Characters are despicable, spineless wimps, or bold heroes that learn to respond to God’s grace. Unrealistic miracles don’t save them, rather they use grace to make tough decisions while struggling for their souls.

SoulCake Press was formed in late 2005 to publish Jim Bello’s first novel, One Baby Rose. It is the desire that SoulCake Press will one day publish additional Bello titles, as well as other quality Catholic novelists. The SoulCake Mission and Vision is to be recognized as a source for exciting fiction that remains faithful to the Church. We want ordinary, struggling Catholics to carry our books to the beach, or the doctor’s waiting room because they can’t put them down.

At this time, SoulCake Press is not accepting manuscripts for publication. As interest grows in this undiscovered market, we hope to publish the best Catholic novels by the best Catholic authors.

 So, What’s a Soul Cake?

Soul Cakes are round like donuts, representing eternity. Given to poor beggars in Old England on All Souls Eve, the price of the sweet pastry was prayer for a poor soul in purgatory.
